You’re Not Alone

If you answered yes to any of these questions, chances are that you are having a normal human experience! As a species, we humans are wired to seek close and loving relationships. And yet, establishing and maintaining thriving relationships in these complex times is not so easy. We can all benefit from the help of a trained, competent, and caring professional to navigate the complexities of relationships - whether romantic, family, or friendships.

At Colorado Therapy Collective, relationships are our specialty. We find that the extensive experience we have working with couples and families directly translates to effectively supporting individuals who want to have better and more meaningful relationships.

Evidence-based Support

We draw on decades of research about adult attachment and relationships to help you understand how your life experience shapes how you show up in your current relationships. Then, we compassionately explore together the strategies that you tend to bring into your relationships. Most of us have learned relational strategies that may have served us at one time, or been necessary during our childhood or in previous relationships. Not all of these strategies continue to serve us now - we believe that becoming aware of our relational tendencies is the first step toward more consciously choosing how we will interact with the important people in our lives.

However, at Colorado Therapy Collective we believe that simple awareness is often not enough to shift long-learned patterns of behavior. We use experiential techniques based in principles of neuroscience and psychology to help repattern long standing beliefs and strategies that no longer serve you in your relationships.

Ultimately, we believe that our clients have the inherent ability to create fulfilling and healthy relationships - Our job is simply to support them in figuring out what might be getting in the way of this ability. Whether you seem to be getting stuck in the early phases of a relationship, or you find yourself often inflicting harm in your long-term relationship when you’re unable to manage your emotions, our skilled and experienced therapists will help you identify your stuck spots and support you in developing the skills and awareness to overcome them.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! Emphatically yes. We will help you identify ways that you can shift the tone and quality of your relationships, all by yourself. We will also help you to determine when and how to invite a significant other or spouse into the counseling process. Since we have a team of highly-trained therapists trained in the same type of relationship therapy, we are happy to be able to connect our clients with therapists who will seamlessly support their relationship. For example, perhaps you see one of our therapists individually for several months to better understand how your own childhood experiences cause you to show up in your relationship with significant anger and criticism. After several months of work, you may feel ready to invite your spouse to begin couples therapy. Your individual therapist can connect you with a couples therapist in our practice, share information about the work you’ve done thus far, and be in ongoing communication with your couples therapist (with you and your partner’s full consent, of course). We love supporting our clients as a team in this way, and our clients find it highly effective.

  • Let’s be blunt - All therapists are not created equal. Sometimes a therapist may be perfectly competent, but not a good fit for your particular needs or preferences. Some therapists simply aren’t that competent (We wish this wasn’t true!). In any case, we really, really hope that if you’ve had a negative therapy experience that you will consider giving it another try. We offer free Zoom consultations with our therapists so that you can get a feel for us, and we can ensure that we have the appropriate expertise to work with your particular concerns and goals. We work collaboratively and openly with our clients and regularly check-in to ensure that you are feeling like therapy is effective and supporting you in meeting your goals.

A Proven Track Record

Our therapists receive ongoing training in evidence-based methods of supporting relationships. As a team, we are committed to ongoing learning, growth, and professional development, and we bring this knowledge and skill back to our clients. For over ten years, we have been supporting clients in developing their relational skills and creating the relationships they imagine and desire. Nancy Brittain, our Founder and Clinical Director, is one of fewer than 25 therapists in Colorado with the designation of Certified Supervisor in Emotionally Focused Therapy, which has the APA’s highest rating for an evidence-based practice. Nancy’s skillful leadership and focus on excellence extends to our whole team.
