Emotionally Focused Therapy Receives APA's Highest Classification for Research Support

This is big news and a huge recognition for the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model. Division 12 of the American Psychological Association (APA) recently classified EFT as having “strong” research support, which is the highest level of evidence that they recognize.

What is the APA?

The American Psychological Association (APA) is the leading scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. The APA's mission is to promote the advancement, communication, and application of psychological science and knowledge to benefit society and improve lives. It serves psychologists and psychology students by offering resources for research, education, training, and advocacy.

What sets Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) apart?

While many couples therapy models claim to be “research based,” this often means that they are designed based on research about couples. This is different than actually having evidence that the therapeutic couples therapy model is proven to help couples in the long and short term. On top of this APA recognition, EFT has many peer-reviewed studies demonstrating efficacy of the actual treatment. To read more check out the APA Division 12 EFT Summary.
